Rick Pitino denied win in 1000th game; Duke wins in Cameron's 1000th game

The Duke Blue Devils needed a signature win, and finally got it. Duke guard Grayson Allen scored a game high 19, as the Devils lost a big lead, but then rallied late to defeat 13th ranked Louisville 72-65. The loss hurts the Cardinals in their quest to win the ACC regular season title. It is the only championship UofL has left to win after the self-imposed ban UofL gave itself for the 2016 post season.
The number 1000 was a big part of the game. It was the 1000th game for Rick Pitino as a coach, and also the 1000th game played at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Louisville was led by a pair of guards. Freshman Donovan Mitchell had 17 points while sophomore Quentin Snider had 12. Graduate Guard Damion Lee might have still been feeling the effects of a bruised knee, which kept him out of Saturday’s win against Boston College. Lee had just 10 points, shooting three of 15 from the field, and oh for five from behind the arc. Center Chinanu Onuaku, who was in foul trouble for much of the game, wound up with just two points and three rebounds.
The loss drops Louisville to 19-5, 8-3 in the ACC, now half a game behind idle North Carolina. The Heels are at Boston College Tuesday night. B-C is 0-10 in the ACC. Duke improves to 18-6, 7-4 in conference.
Louisville is now off until Saturday (4pm ESPN) when the Cards play at a Notre Dame team that just upset North Carolina.
