Reds' Jay Bruce out with knee injury. Is surgery next?

Jay Bruce was scratched from Sunday’s game against the Brewers with soreness in his left knee. But reports out of Cincinnati say the soreness could be from a partially torn meniscus that would require surgery. The estimated recovery time is 3 to 4 weeks. The Reds have yet to confirm these reports.
Bruce’s injury couldn’t come at a worse time for a team that just took 3 or 4 from division-leading Milwaukee and now sit 5.5 games back. Despite only being a month into the season, several starters have spent time on the DL or are nursing injuries this season, including Aroldis Chapman, Billy Hamilton and Matt Latos.
Bruce, who was replaced in the lineup by Chris Heisey, did come on to pinch hit in the 7th inning on Sunday before striking out on three pitches. For the season, Bruce is hitting .218 with three home runs and 14 RBIs. Bruce is a two time All-Star who hit 30 home runs and drove in 109 RBI’s last season.
The Reds travel to Boston to open a two game interleague series with the Red Sox. The game will be televised on Fox Sports Ohio, Time Warner Cable channel 55/930
