UK’s hopes of a lengthy run during the SEC softball tournament came to a crashing halt Wednesday night as 10th seeded South Carolina upset the 7th seeded Cats 6-3.
After a 3 1/2 hour delay because of rain, the Gamecocks racked up four runs on three hits and one UK error in the top of the third inning to take a 4-1 edge and never looked back. USC sophomore pitcher Julie Sarratt’s strong pitching and two more runs in the top of the sixth proved to be enough for the upset win. UK softball coach Rachel Lawson says her team just couldn’t keep up with Sarratt’s stellar pitching.
