As Louisville Coach Rick Pitino gathered his family on the court after the Cardinals’ 82-76 win Monday night, he presented his sister-in-law with the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame jersey given to him earlier in the day at the official announcement that he’ll be inducted.
“I said, ‘This is the most special thing that’s happened to me personally. And I want you to have it.’ And I gave it to her on the court,” Pitino said.
Mary Minardi, the younger sister of Pitino’s wife Joanne, lost her husband in an accident 12 years ago, five months before her brother and Pitino’s best friend Billy Minardi was killed on Sept. 11.
