On Wednesday, University of Louisville Head Coach Bobby Petrino announced that former Cardinal Pete Nochta has been hired as the program’s director of on-campus recruiting.

Nochta was a tight end for UofL from 2006 to 2010 and was a member of the 2007 Orange Bowl team. He also served as a graduate assistant in 2014.

In a press release, Petrino noted that the decision to hire Nochta was an easy one.

He was the first person I thought of when this position opened. He has battled through a tough fight with cancer and beat it. He has been with me on two different occasions and is someone that means a great deal to me. As a graduate assistant for us, he was an outstanding recruiter for our program. He is very organized and has excellent people skills, which makes him a great fit for this role.

Nochta’s hire follows a hard-fought and well-publicized battle with Stage 4 Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma . He is currently in remission.

In his new role, Nochta will be responsible for coordinating all recruiting efforts and maintaining relationships with coaches across the state of Kentucky. He will also play a key role in summer camps and lead the walk-on program.
