OVC Media Days | Murray State Racers talk quarterback battle, defense

07/25/2017 10:48 AM

As the 2017 OVC Media Day wrapped in Nashville on Monday, this season’s focus for the Murray State Racers was clear — the team’s quarterback replacement and an improved defense.

Head Coach Mitch Stewart, wide receiver Jordon Gandy and linebacker Lamont Crittendon represented the Racers. And even though the Racers were chosen eighth in the preseason OVC poll, they say this year’s team chemistry is setting up a strong season.

“Just how we practice. Everything we do is high tempo and fast-paced,” said Gandy. “Even if we don’t know what we’re doing, if we go out there and do it full speed, something positive may come from it. You never know. That’s all we focus on.”

Coach Stewart says despite the absence of the team’s starting quarterback KD Humphries this year, he’s confident the right man for the role will step up.

“The tough part about fall camp is that we don’t have very long to figure that out,” said Stewart. “So we’ve got to hit the ground rolling and put the guy that’s gonna be the guy that can win us the ball games out there on the field.”
