On Tuesday, Louisville City FC Soccer of the USL (United Soccer League) confirmed that as of the end of the 2015 season, the club will no longer be an affiliate of Orlando City of the MLS (Major League Soccer).
The announcement came as Orlando City plans to own and operate a USL team in central Florida for the 2016 season. No MLS team can be affiliated with more than one USL team. It is part of Orlando City’s push to promote and grow soccer in central Florida.
Orlando City joined the MLS in 2011. This is the first season for Louisville City FC in the USL. The two hope to continue a formal partnership without the affiliation.
On the same day of this announcement it was also revealed that Louisville FC and Orlando City will play an exhibition on Tuesday, August 25 at Slugger Field.
Louisville FC is currently in 4th place in the Eastern conference of the USL with a record of 6-3-5. They are back on home on Saturday night, July 4, at 7:30 when they take on Richmond.
