NASCAR | The stars of tomorrow invade KY Speedway today
09/24/2015 08:00 PM
The Kentucky Speedway will be busy, and loud, starting on Friday. The Sparta track will be hosting the ARCA (Auto Racing Club of America) Friday night, with the NASCAR Xfinity Series running Saturday night.
The Xfinity Series is the circuit right below NASCAR’s Sprint Cup, sort of analogous to Triple A Baseball. Many of the future Sprint Cup stars get their experience and seasoning running the XFinity Series. Many times there are Sprint Cuppers who also compete in the Xfinity race. That was the case in July the last time NASCAR paid a visit to the Kentucky Speedway. However, in this particular case, the Sprint Cup drivers are in New Hampshire at the same time, so the Kentucky Speedway Xfinity event is considered a “Stand Alone Race.”
Arguably the biggest name in the field is Louisville native Ben Rhodes. The 18 year old recently graduated from Holy Cross High School, and has had a pretty good rookie season. Rhodes will be driving the JR Motorsports Number 88 Alpha Chevy.
We recently spoke with Kentucky Speedway General Manager Mark Simendinger to help break down the weekend events.
