Mike Zimmer to be named Vikings HC

01/15/2014 11:35 AM

“Zimmer Watch” has finally come to an end. First reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Mike Zimmer will be named the Minnesota Vikings new head coach.

Zimmer has interviewed with six teams in five seasons; even his Bengals players have questioned why their defensive coordinator had yet to become an NFL coach. After a first interview last Wednesday and a second interview on Tuesday, Zimmer will finally get his chance.

Zimmer led the Bengals defense to four Top 10 rankings in six seasons, including third this season. The beloved coach will be missed in Cincinnati, especially by his players. Soon after the news spread on twitter, Rey Maualuga tweeted “Gonna miss you coach Zimmer! Wish you nothing but the best in Minnesota. You brought out the best in each of your players! So honored to have been coached by you!”

The Bengals will promote linebackers coach Paul Guenther to replace Zimmer as defensive coordinator.
