Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer has designated Friday, September 29 as Wear Red Day in Louisville and is encouraging the public to show their support for the University of Louisville.

Fischer’s announcement comes just one day after the university announced that athletics director Tom Jurich and head coach Rick Pitino would be placed on leave amid an FBI investigation into fraud and corruption within college basketball. University officials have confirmed the basketball program’s involvement in a pay-to-play scandal that involves several other programs, agents, financial advisers and shoe company employees.

In a series of tweets on Thursday, Fischer detailed various accomplishments and notes of recognition for the university, including $1.3 billion in investments in campus and facility developments since 2001. He has invited the public to join Metro Government employees in showing their support for UofL at the Muhammad Ali Center on Friday at 12:30 p.m.
