Marvin Jones out for 'a few weeks'

Just before practice began for the Bengals at West Carrollton High School for their annual trip to Dayton during training camp, Marvin Lewis had some bad news to share. In Saturday’s practice, wide receiver Marvin Jones broke his foot and would miss “a few weeks” after a pin was placed in his fifth metatarsal. Jones practiced for the first time last week after arriving at camp with a nagging ankle injury. Saturday was the first practice he participated in team drills.

Jones being out allows Mohamed Sanu, who has had a strong training camp, an opportunity to shine. It also provides the other receivers fighting for roster spots a chance to step up.

“Sanu’s been (No.) two. I know everyone says Marvin is two, but I can’t say that because he hasn’t been out there. Sanu is two, so we’ll find out who the third is. We’ll do whatever it takes to keep our passing game going,” offensive coordinator Hue Jackson said after Monday’s practice. Since Jones has only participated in 11-on-11 once during camp, the team will continue with business as usual, despite knowing it’s a big loss.
