Louisville mayor Greg Fischer has announced a $200 million development in the city’s Butchertown neighborhood that will be anchored by a professional soccer stadium.

The stadium will cover 15 acres and include 10,000 seats, allowing Louisville to compete for an MLS franchise. Louisville City FC will serve as the developer of the $50 million stadium.

In addition to LCFC’s role in the project, Louisville Metro Government will purchase the land for $30 million and be reimbursed for at least half through sales of land, rent from leases of land and stadium rent.

The project is expected to be complete by 2020. In addition to a soccer stadium, the development will also include hotel, office and retail space.
