A wet field on a rainy fourth of July did not slow down Louisville City FC, who captured a 2-0 win over FC Montreal to extend their unbeaten streak to 15 games.

A flurry of goals put Louisville on top within the first dozen minutes. Midfielder George Davis IV opened the scoring with an 11th minute shot into the right side of the net. One minute later, star striker Chandler Hoffman netted his 11th goal of the year off an assist from Kyle Smith. FC Montreal finished the game with 10 men after its captain, Jeremy Gagnon-Lapare, received a straight red card in the 37th minute.

Louisville carried the two-score buffer into the second half when starting goalkeeper Greg Ranjitsingh was subbed out for Scott Goodwin. Goodwin was the club’s first starting keeper, started over 30 games for the purple and gold, but is retiring from his professional soccer career to attend Harvard Medical School. After keeping FC Montreal scoreless for the final 38 minutes of the game, Goodwin’s teammates hoisted the him up and down in front of the Louisville supporters to complete his sendoff.

The win keeps Louisville City firmly atop the USL’s Eastern Conference who now face shorter turnaround before hosting Charleston.
