LOUISVILLE CITY FC | Purple and Gold attack Saint Louis but end in a season opening draw

The USL Soccer season is officially underway, and Louisville City takes home one point to start the season, drawing Saint Louis FC 0-0 at Louisville Slugger Field.

Louisville City controlled the game for the full 90 minutes, but were never able to crack the Saint Louis defense. City won the possession battle and earned 16 corner kicks compared to Saint Louis’ 2.

And the it really was the SLFC defense that kept the visiting team in the game, because Louisville City launched an unrelenting attack. LCFC launched 21 shots, six of them on target, but Saint Louis goalkeeper Devala Gorrick stopped all of them to keep a clean sheet.

The tenacious offense clearly flustered the visitors. Four different Saint Louis players ended the game with yellow cards, compared to just one from Louisville City FC.

Louisville head coach James O’Connor went to his bench for the full three substitutions. Midfielder Niall McCabe saw his first game action since suffering an injury last season, and second year goalkeeper Tim Dobrowolski played the full second half after starting keeper Greg Ranjitsingh was shaken up.

Louisville now goes on the road for two straight games. Next up is a Thursday night game at Orlando City B.
