The Louisville Bats struggled from the start in the first of a 4-game home series against Charlotte Monday night. The Knights got started early, as Matt Davidson scored a two-run homer to right, driving in Jason Coats.

Things didn’t get better for Bats pitcher Tony Cingrani, as Charlotte scored two more runs before he was pulled after the third inning. The pitching change did not improve the Bats’ fate, as the Knights scored another run in the fourth, and two more in the final inning to get the 7-1 victory.

The Bats’ only run came in the bottom of the 5th, when Hernan Iribarren beat the throw at the plate off a sacrifice fly to center from Brennan Boesch. The Bats hope to improve on Tuesday for Game 2 of the series. First pitch is at 7:05 at Slugger Field.
