Louisville shortstop Devin Hairston was the hero of the night as the Cards took down Wake Forest 3-1 on the road in the opener of their 3-game series. Hairston got the ball rolling in the top of the 2nd with a solo homerun to left field to take a 1-0 lead.
He wasn’t finished there, though. In the top of the 4th, Hairston singled to get on base and then advanced on a single by Danny Rosenbaum. From there, junior outfielder Colin Lyman singled up the middle to score Hairston and give the Cards a 2-0 lead.
Wake Forest got on the board in the bottom of the 4th on Kevin Conway’s inside-the-park homerun after Louisville center fielder Corey Ray’s unsuccessful dive for the ball. That cut the Louisville lead to 2-1.
Cards junior Nick Solak led off the 6th inning with a double to center field, but was able to advance to third on a fielding error. From there, Hairston came back up to bat for his third scoring play, driving in Solak for the final 3-1 score.
Louisville plays game 2 in their series with the Demon Deacons on Friday at 1pm. The game was rescheduled from a 6pm start, because of expected inclement weather.
