The State Baseball playoffs are going on in Lexington. We have highlites from a pair of games.

The first has Hopkinsville, in the field, playing last night in an opening round game against North Bullitt. Bottom of the first and Hopkinsville with some trouble in the field …bad throw to first. That allows two runners to score for North Bullitt and tie the game at 3. Dustin Pendleton, in the top of the third, puts Hoptown back on top when this seeing eye single finds a hole and it’s now a 4-3 game. Back come the Eagles. Daulton Walls with the sacrifice fly to center. It’s deep enough to get the runner home from third….. tied at 4.
Hoptown’s defense once again helps out North Bullitt. They would score two runs in the fifth on their way to a 6-4 victory and advance to play again tomorrow night.

In the second: UK quarterback Patrick Towles in the stands today, cheering on his High School alma mater, Highlands. McCracken County, in the field, facing the Bluebirds and trouble throwing from third is contagious. This error allows Highlands to get on the the scoreboard. Later, it’s Senior outfielder Brady Murray with the grounder to second but it does the job in getting Kyle Rust home from third just ahead of the tag. How about the Highlands defense? McCracken with the bases loaded but the Bluebirds get out of it. Then, on the mound, Highland’s Ricky Raisor will finish things off with the called third strike. Highlands wins it 5-2 and they will face North Bullitt tomorrow evening in a quarterfinal game.
