KEENELAND | Thousands Gather For Start of Spring Meet

04/06/2018 03:02 PM

The gates are open at Keeneland race track for the 16-day 2018 spring meet.

A record $30,000 will be given away on College Scholarship Day, which is annual tradition during the spring meet. This event annually attracts thousands of college students from across the bluegrass state.

Full-time students in attendance for the Friday meet are able to register one of ten $1,000 scholarships and (2) $10,000 Runhappy Scholarships along with prizes from local vendors distributed after each of the day’s 10 races.

Keeneland will be altering it’s Toyota Blue Grass Stakes Day, schedule on Saturday due to an expected winter weather threat. Gates will not open until 12pm Saturday, instead of 11 a.m., and its morning “Sunrise Trackside” program is canceled.
Also, Keeneland’s popular weekend tailgating spot, The Hill, will be closed Saturday.

The post time for the first race on Saturday is set to begin at 1:05 p.m.

Keeneland’s spring meet lasts through April 27.
