John L. Smith returns to the bluegrass to coach Kentucky State

Former Louisville football head coach John L. Smith is returning to Kentucky. Smith has accepted the head coaching position at Kentucky State University in Frankfort.

Smith coached the Cardinals from 1998 – 2002, took them to five straight bowl appearances and two Conference USA titles. He put together a 41-21 record in his tenure with Louisville, before taking on the head coaching position at Michigan State.

Smith is inheriting a Thorobreds program that went 3-7 this season.

Garrett Moore

Garrett is a Sports Producer for Spectrum News. He is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State and got his start as a sports photographer.
