Jeff Neubauer staying at EKU...for now

EKU head coach Jeff Neubauer’s name has popped up recently on short lists for various head coaching jobs. And why shouldn’t it? Neubauer has had an incredible run the last two seasons, winning 49 games during that time span, including the OVC tournament title and a birth in the NCAA tournament this past season.
Neubauer plays an up-tempo style and likes to shoot the three. This past season, EKU ranked 6th in the NCAA in three-point field goals made with 315. This year alone, senior guard Glenn Cosey set a school record of 10 three-pointers in a game.
It’s no wonder rumors began swirling today that a school like Marshall came calling. After a long flirtation with former player and current NBA coach Mike D’antoni, the Herd reportedly turned their attention to Jeff Neubauer. He looked to be a good fit for a team in need of a winning coach. But on Thursday, Marshall Director of Athletics Mike Hamrick announced that Dan D’Antoni has been named the Thundering Herd head men’s basketball coach. D’Antoni is the older brother of Los Angeles Lakers coach Mike D’Antoni.
Neubauer has spent the past nine seasons in Richmond building the Colonels into a perennial league contender. His record there is 167-122 overall. He has four 20+ win seasons and four post season appearances, including trips to the NCAA tournament in 2007 and 2014. EKU also has two conference tournament championships in his tenure.
Before coming to EKU, Coach Neubauer was a long-time assistant under John Beilein at Richmond and at West Virginia.
