Horse racing has always been a male dominated sport, but women have made a number of great contributions to the sport. In 1970 Diane Crump was the first of six women to ride in the Kentucky Derby. In 2014 Rosie Napravnik was the first woman to win the Kentucky Oaks.
This week we talked with Ingrid Mason, a former jockey who is making a name for herself in horse training. In 2009 Crook’s Bodgit won the $100,000 Texas Stakes to give Mason her first of six stakes race wins. Now Mason hopes to add a Kentucky Oaks win to her resume as Sarah Sis takes to the track on Friday.
