H.S. FOOTBALL | Bowling Green and South Warren Finally Set to Square Off

10/19/2017 06:19 PM

Since 2013 the Bowling Green and South Warren football teams have a combined record of 115-13 with four State Championships between them. This week they meet for the very first time.

The defending back-to-back State Champs, the Bowling Green Purples are 6-2 this season with two losses to Louisville schools (PRP and St. X in weeks two and three). They’re on a five-game winning streak and are undefeated in the region and district. They’re led by senior linebacker Justice Dingle, a Georgia Tech commit, and are preparing to disrupt the Spartan offense in the match-up they host on Friday night.

South Warren has only existed since 2010 and since then, they’ve been moved from class 3-A, to 4-A and now into 5-A, which presented some challenges for the Spartans. SWHS and BGHS each went 15-0 and won their respective state titles in 2015. This season, the Spartans are 7-1, their only loss coming October 6 against Ravenwood out of Tennessee. They’re coming off a bye heading into the cross-town match-up, which will be at 7:00 p.m. central on Friday. South Warren is unbeaten in both district and region play- and it never hurts to have a quarterback with the last name Spurrier. Junior quarterback Gavin Spurrier is the grandson of the old ball coach and his dad is the quarterbacks coach at WKU. SWHS knows they don’t have as much history as BG, but they’re ready to compete.
