H.S. BASKETBALL | Mercer County Girls Win Back-to-Back KHSAA State Championship

03/11/2018 03:31 PM

The Mercer County girls basketball team won its second consecutive state championship on Sunday afternoon inside Highland Heights’ BB&T Arena.

The Titans beat Mercy-Boyd County 74-34 to take home the trophy. Mercer County is the first repeat champion in Kentucky since Lexington Catholic in 2005 and 2006.

After switching to a zone defense against Clark County in the semifinal game, the Titans stayed with the defense for the title game and it proved the difference as the team held the Lions to a pedestrian 30% from the field. Mercer County also had an incredible display from three-point line, shooting 12 of 15 in the first half and breaking the girls state title game record of 14 three-pointers with 16 for the game. The Titans finished the season on a 14-game winning streak and Mercer County’s senior guard Seygan Robins was named Tournament MVP and senior guard Lexy Lake was perfect from the field in the win 6-6 FG(5-5 3pt).

Our Mario Anderson has post-game reactions from the KHSAA Girls Sweet 16 tournament champions.

Here are extended highlights from Mercer County’s big win over Mercy.
