HORSE RACING | Romans Getting Close To Making History at Churchill Downs

09/14/2017 06:29 PM

Horse trainer Dale Romans has already accomplished a lot in his career.

For example, he was the winning trainer of the 2011 Preakness winner Shackleford.

More than likely, he’s about to add another accomplishment to his resume.

Romans is three wins away from passing Bill Mott as the all-time winningest trainer at Churchill Downs. Mott has 701 wins inside the facility, while Romans has 699 wins.

“It is close to my heart,” said Romans. “It’s a big deal to me.”

Romans has 16 horses entered on the opening weekend of Churchill Downs’ September Meet, which begins Friday afternoon.
