Hopkinsville football player dies in tragic accident at practice

A tragic accident has claimed the life of a Hopkinsville High School football player.

Seventeen-year-old Jay’Von Quarles was moving large, metal football equipment, when a piece fell and reportedly struck Quarles on the head, killing him.

Hopkinsville Police report that Quarles suffered blunt force trauma to his head. He was later pronounced dead at Jennie Stuart Medical Center. The incident occurred about 4 p.m. on Thursday. Quarles played fullback, and middle linebacker for the Tigers football team. Hopkinsville’s Friday scrimmage against Owensboro High School has been canceled.

In a show of condolence and support, Owensboro High School students and staff will wear Hopkinsville High School colors on Friday.
