Former UK, UofL Stars Return to Louisville for NBA Exhibition

Basketball fans in the Commonwealth got a special treat Saturday night, as three former college stars returned to the Bluegrass as professionals. Russ Smith, Anthony Davis and Darius Miller visited the KFC Yum! Center as members of the New Orleans Pelicans to take on the Miami Heat in the first exhibition game of the NBA season.

Davis and Miller were in the Pelicans starting line-up. Davis totaled five points, four rebounds and three blocks in 11 minutes of action; while Miller finished with eight points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal in a game high 32 minutes of play.

Midway through the second quarter fans in the Yum! Center started a chant of “We want Russ!”, hoping to get Smith in the game. The fans would get their wish late in the third quarter, Giving Smith a standing ovation as he walked to the scorers table.

In 13 minutes of playing time, Smith tallied 12 points, three rebounds, two steals and one assist. He also got to match-up with collegiate rival Shabazz Napier. The two played against each other last season in the AAC.

The Pelicans got the win 98-86 and will travel to Atlanta to face the Hawks on Monday.
