Former Cardinal Kenny Payne: All of my success started right there in Louisville
02/19/2016 11:44 AM
The University of Louisville’s 1986 NCAA champions will take the court together once again on Saturday when the current Cardinals face Duke.
Their appearance at that particular game is symbolic because the Blue Devils were the team UofL defeated in the championship game 30 years ago.
Former head coach Denny Crum and many of the players are expected to attend the reunion event. But one key player on that ’86 team who won’t be able to attend is current Kentucky Wildcats associate basketball coach Kenny Payne. Payne will be with Kentucky in College Station, Texas as they take on Texas A&M.
But despite spending the weekend with Louisville’s in-state rivals, Payne says the foundation of his career began with UofL and he will never forget the significance of his experience as a member of the 1986 championship team.
