The Cards are getting another shot in Omaha after beating Kennesaw State in the first and second games of the Super Regionals this weekend.
Senior Jeff Gardner went to the CWS last year with the Cards and says this year does feel different.
UofL will face Vanderbilt in the first round. The Cards beat Vandy earlier in the season but Gardner says they aren’t reading too much into that game because everyone gets a fresh slate in Omaha. Gardner says the challenge for the younger guys on the team will be to not get distracted by the hype. His advice to them:
Junior Kyle McGrath echoes Gardner’s tempered enthusiasm and the need for focus. When asked about Coach Dan McDonnell’s emotional post-game press conference Saturday, here’s what McGrath had to say.
Coach McDonnell says he got emotional because he just started thinking about the great leadership on the team and how easy it has been to be with the players this year. It’s all because they took on a massive challenge.
Coach McDonnell says that even though it was a special weekend getting to play and win in front of family and friends the team is back to business.
The Cards take on Vanderbilt Saturday at 8pm and the game will be televised on ESPN2.
