FC Cincinnati defeats LouCity FC to advance in US Open Cup

FC Cincinnati will advance in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup after defeating rival Louisville City FC 1-0 on Wednesday night. In the fourth round of the U.S. Open Cup, FC Cincinnati will host Major League Soccer and fellow Ohio club Columbus Crew SC on June 14. On the match-up, head coach Alan Koch said, “it’s huge. I think everybody knows where our club would like to go.”

The match was chippy and intense, as expected. FCC pulled out the win with a goal in the 48th minute by star striker Djiby Fall. Koch called it “ironic” that Djiby scored the game-winner after he was suspended for biting LouCity’s Niall McCabe in the last match between the two clubs. The goal is Djiby’s second in the 2017 U.S. Open Cup, making him FCC’s all-time leading scorer in Cup matches.

FC Cincinnati will return to USL play on Saturday at Rochester. Louisville City FC will head to Charleston for a 7 p.m. match on Saturday.
