EKU FOOTBALL | Tyler Swafford earns once in a lifetime scholarship

11/30/2016 07:00 PM

Eastern Kentucky Football quarterback Tyler Swafford was a valuable piece to the Colonel program this season. As a redshirt sophomore this year, Swafford started four games under head coach Mark Elder, and threw for 940 yards and five touchdowns while rushing for one touchdown.

Immediately before the Colonels’ last game of the season, Swafford was in Washington D.C., interviewing for the prestigious George Mitchell Scholarship. Up to 12 scholarship recipients are chosen annually for one academic year of postgraduate study in any discipline offered by institutions of higher learning in Ireland and Northern Ireland.

We spoke to Tyler about the accomplishment, and he said there is even a chance he could still play football overseas.
