Does no Hoppertunity mean opportunity for Pablo Del Monte?

With the announcement from Bob Baffert Thursday morning that his horse, Hoppertunity, was scratched from Saturday’s 140th running of the Kentucky Derby, the door was open for the race’s only other eligible horse Pable Del Monte.
The owners are meeting now and must make a decision by 9 a.m. Friday or they will be scratched. Should they decide to make the Derby start they are required to pay a $25,000 fee. Also, Pablo Del Monte would get the unenviable position of breaking from gate 20. The colt is trained by Wesley Ward and would be ridden by jockey Jeffrey Sanchez.
Hoppertunity is expected to ship out Thursday afternoon for Rood and Riddle hospital in Lexington for a full examination. If everything checks out and a bruised foot is revealed to be the culprit, Baffert expects to enter the colt in the Preakness Stakes on May 17.
