Mor Spirit is a dark bay ridgling by Eskendreya, out of the Dixie Union mare Im a Dixie Girl. Foaled Apri 1, 2013 in Pennsylvania. The last dark bay or brown horse to win the Kentucky Derby was Street Sense in 2007. Mor Spirit has never finished worse than second in seven career starts.

Mor Spirit is owned by Michael Lund Petersen, trained by Bob Baffert and ridden by Gary Stevens. Baffert trained 2015 Triple Crown winner American Pharoah who became the first horse in 37 years to sweep all three American classic and went on to win that year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic at Keeneland. He’s a four-time Kentucky Derby winner.

Mor Spirit’s jockey Gary Stevens was inducted into Racing’s Hall of Fame in 1997. He’s the winner of over 5,000 career victories in North America and has won the Preakness and Belmont Stakes both three times. He also played jockey George Wolfe in the 2003 film Seabuscuit.
