Gun Runner is a chestnut colt by Candy Ride, out of the Giant’s Causeway mare Quiet Giant, foaled March 8, 2013 in Kentucky. Gun Runner is No. 1 on the Kentucky Derby Leaderboard with 151 points. Gun Runner won Grade II Louisiana Derby at Fair Grounds and Grade II Risen Star at Fair Grounds. Gun Runner’s lone defeat came in last year’s Grade II Kentucky Jockey Club where he was fourth beaten 3 1⁄4 lengths behind Airoforce and Derby contenders Mor Spirit and Mo Tom.

Gun Runner is owned by Winchell Thoroughbreds LLC (Ron Winchell) & Three Chimneys Farm (Goncalo Borges Torrealba), trained by Steven M. Asmussen and ridden by Florent Geroux.

Asmussen trained two-time Horse of the Year Curlin (2007-08), 2009 Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra. He finished second in 2011 Kentucky Derby with Nehro and will be inducted into National Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame in 2016. He won his 7,000th race on April 1, 2015 at Oaklawn Park with Drama Coach and has a Kentucky Derby record of 13-0-1-1.
