The final two weeks before the Kentucky Derby are always a difficult time for horse trainers. They have to evaluate the recent performances of their horse in order to determine how to work them out on the track; as well as what changes could or should be made. There are also concerns about how the horse will react to traveling to Churchill Downs and how the horse will handle the track once it arrives.
Kiaran McLaughlin, trainer of Derby 142 contender Mohaymen says the horse likes the track and has performed well recently aside from his outing at the Florida Derby at the beginning of April.
We caught up with Dallas Stewart just a few barns over from McLaughlin and Stewart says his Derby entry, Tom’s Ready is performing well in his work at Churchill despite still recovering from a cracked hoof.
