DERBY 142 | Steve Asmussen calls Gun Runner the "total package"

05/03/2016 10:07 AM

Steve Asmussen is a newly crowned Hall of Fame horse trainer with one key prize missing from his trophy case, the Kentucky Derby. He has two chances in this year’s Run for the Roses, and is the head trainer of the current points leader Gun Runner.

The Chestnut colt has four wins in his last five starts, most recently in the March 26 Louisiana Derby. Asmussen calls Gun Runner the total package and believes he will give him a great chance to capture that elusive garland of roses.
