He came into the race unbeaten, the 3-1 favorite to win, and Nyquist lived up to the pressure and captured the 142nd Kentucky Derby Crown.

Out of the 13th post, Nyquist was middle of the pack when gates opened and a good jump propelled him to a couple lengths off the pace horse Danzing Candy who came out of gate 20. Nyquist hugged Danzing Candy’s hip around the fourth turn and cut lose down the stretch. Nyquist crossed first, followed by Exaggerator in second, and Gun Runner in third.

After the race, Nyquist owner Paul Reddam, Trainer Doug O’Neill, and Jockey Mario Gutierrez talked about the winning trip.

The next leg of the triple crown is the Preakness two weeks from today, May 21.
