All off-season long both the Bengals organization and Andy Dalton were confident the quarterback’s deal would be done before the season. They were right. Today Dalton signed a six-year, $115 million extension.

“We’re betting big on him because we believe in him,” said Bengals owner Mike Brown.

Dalton looks forward to his family continuing to call Cincinnati home.

“This is unbelievable. I’m just very thankful for the Bengals organization and for my teammates to help me here where I am. I’m excited about the future and that I’ll be here for a long time,” said Dalton.

Everyone is, of course, wondering about the structure of Dalton’s deal. Lewis told the media in the press conference that he wouldn’t discuss the structure, but Albert Breer of NFL Network reported further details. According to reports from Breer, Dalton’s deal has a base value of $96 million over six years, with the ability to earn the other $19 million through escalators by qualifying for the divisional round, the conference title game, and the Super Bowl. Pro Football Talk also reported that Dalton is essentially guaranteed two years, $25 million with the rest “pay as you go” a year at a time. They report that if the Bengals win the Super Bowl, Dalton would make $1.5 million more per year for each year left on the deal.
