cn|2 Sports All-Star of the Week: Ben Price

At 6-foot-5 and 255 lbs, Ben Price makes a big impression on the football field.
“He’s just one of those kids who works hard,” said DeSales head coach Harold Davis. “(Price is) very intelligent, does the right things not just out here but also in school and outside of school.”
For the DeSales football team, he’s a towering left tackle, but off the field, he’s a normal senior in high school.
“I like to play sports games on XBox,” said DeSales senior lineman Ben Price. “I like honestly just watching football. I get into fantasy football a lot. Anything that has to do with sports really.”
Football is just a part of life for Price, who says he’s been playing the sport since he was 5 or 6 years old. Once he graduates, he wants to keep playing in college, but his list of schools isn’t like other top prospects in the area.
“Well I’m more looking at academic schools like Davidson, a couple Ivy League schools like Pennsylvania and Cornell, and then some local schools,” said Price.
With a college decision still a ways off, his focus right now is solely on the gridiron. Last year the Colts went 14-1 en route to a class 2A state title. This season they’re hoping to repeat, but Price says the team has a long way to go.
“Right now we’re not really where we want to be,” said Price. “We still feel like we really have a lot of room to improve and we still have a long way to go until we can get back.”
If DeSales has another big season, Price will be a big reason why. But like many offensive linemen, he doesn’t crave the spotlight.
“We have plenty of good players on this team. I think overall as a team we’re pretty balanced and really don’t have any true all-stars. I think he’s just expecting me to become a leader on this team and I need to step up.
