University of Louisville Vice President and Director of Athletics Tom Jurich announced, along side Head Coach Bobby Petrino, and Athletic Director of Development Mark Jurich, official plans to expand Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium.

The plan’s primary feature will be closing the horseshoe at the north end zone of the stadium to increase capacity to 65,000. The capacity expansion will include 1,000 modern club seats, 65 new premium club level boxes and 10 exclusive field level suites.

There will also be a 25,000 square foot addition to the Schnellenberger complex which will expand the teams weight training and conditioning facilities. The complex addition will provide a larger player’s lounge, and improvements to the coaches’ offices and team locker room.

Bobby Petrino said these are the improvements that really impress recruits and shows them how committed the university is to its student athletes.

In addition to moving forward with expansion plans as soon as possible, Jurich also said games will continue during the construction process.
