Charlie Strong Discusses Mike Sanford situation

The University of Louisville dropped a 14-7 decision at North Carolina on Saturday, but the hot topic at U of L coach Charlie Strong’s Monday press conference was the future of offensive coordinator Mike Sanford.
Sanford did not make the trip to Chapel Hill, as quarterbacks coach Shawn Watson called plays.
Strong denied rumors that a physical altercation took place between he and Sanford but admitted that Sanford will no longer call plays for the Cardinal offense. U of L has struggled offensively all season, averaging just 17 points per game.
Strong explains his decision to remove Sanford from play-calling duties:

Strong didn’t think that Sanford’s absence served as a distraction against North Carolina and doesn’t expect it to during Saturday’s Big East Conference opener vs. Cincinnati, which will take place at Paul Brown Stadium.

The Cardinal defense has been carrying its weight, ranking in the Top 20 nationally and among the nation’s leaders in sacks and tackles for loss. End William Savoy said the defense will continue to support the offense through its struggles.
