Charlie Strong Comments on the First Day of Practice

A record crowd turned out to watch Charlie Strong and the UofL football team during their first practice of the season. Michael Dyer made his debut, wearing the number 26 jersey. And coach Strong says he’s going to take his time to see what Dyer brings to the table.

Fans were surprised to see assistant coach Clint Hurtt on the sidelines. Strong says Hurtt has been on administrative leave while he awaits his appeal over alleged recruiting violations while he was at Miami.

Strong says he liked the enthusiasm he saw on the field, even though the freshmen still need a bit of time getting used to the pace.

The coach says he was also impressed by the fan turnout, and says it reminded him of the support he saw in New Orleans for last January’s Sugar Bowl.
