Second-ranked Kentucky and No. 9 Louisville both rolled to easy wins in their basketball season openers on Friday night.
UK got 23 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks from freshman forward Anthony Davis in a 108-58 blowout of Marist, while the Cards got a balanced scoring effort in an 83-48 rout of Tennessee-Martin.
Davis was one of five Wildcats in double figures, joining Marquis Teague (16 points, four assists); Mike Kidd-Gilchrist (15 points, seven rebounds); Doron Lamb (15 points, eight assists); and Kyle Wiltjer (14 points).
Marist hung around in the first 20 minutes, trailing just 45-36 at the half. But the Cats went on a 21-2 run early in the second half to take a 72-42 lead, and the rout was on.
Kentucky will now travel to New York to face No. 13 Kansas on Tuesday in Madison Square Garden. The Jayhawks whipped up on Towson 100-54 on Friday.
UofL got 14 points apiece from Kyle Kuric and Chane Behanan as they were never seriously threatened by the Skyhawks. Behanan also grabbed 12 rebounds to post a double-double in his first collegiate game. The Cards held Tennessee-Martin to 29.6 percent shooting from the field, and Coach Rick Pitino was able to use his bench early and often.
Louisville is back in action on Sunday at home against Lamar.
