Four wide at the turn heading into the backstretch, Cathryn Sophia pulled away from the field to win the 2016 Kentucky Oaks by 2 3/4 lengths. Cathryn Sophia paid $11.40 to win, $5.40 to place and $3.80 to show. Land Over Sea finished in second and Lewis Bay was third. The favorite, Rachel’s Valentina, fell back and was never really a factor, finishing out of the money.

The winning time was 1:50:33. Cathryn Sophia was trained by John Servis and ridden by jockey Javier Castellano.

A record crowd of 124,589 fans jammed Churchill Downs to watch the 142nd Kentucky Oaks. Next up is the 142nd Kentucky Derby Saturday at 6:34pm ET.
