Cards Topple Butler
11/19/2011 03:50 PM
No Peyton Siva, no problem.
No. 7 Louisville didn’t need its starting point guard, who sat out with an ankle injury, to knock off defending national runner-up Butler 69-53 on Saturday at Hinkle Fieldhouse. Louisville led just 29-28 at the break, but Kyle Kuric and Chris Smith sparked a late-second half run that helped the Cards put the game away.
Kuric hit two three-pointers in the final five minutes and Smith, who spent much of the afternoon at point guard in Siva’s absence, scored 13 of his 15 points in the final 20 minutes.
UofL (3-0) shot 51 percent compared to 39 for Butler and outrebounded the Bulldogs 30-22.
The Cards return to action Tuesday at home against Arkansas State.
