Cards let big lead slip away, but hold on for biggest win of the season

Wayne Blackshear scored a game high 22 points (one of 4 Cards in double figures) and Montrezl Harrell added a double-double (13 points and 10 rebounds) as 5th ranked Louisville defeated number 14 Ohio State 64-55. It was the Cardinals first win of the season over a ranked opponent.

Louisville never trailed in this game, stretching the lead to 19 in the first half. However Ohio State refused to give up. Twice in the final 1:12, the Buckeyes cut the UofL lead to just four points. However Louisville’s Terry Rozier stepped up down the stretch. The Sophomore Guard scored 9 of his 11 points in the final four minutes, as the Cards eventually did pull away at the very end.

With the win, Louisville improves to 6-0 while the Buckeyes fall to 5-1. The game, part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, was just the second overall victory for the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Big Ten still leads the challenge 6-2. The three day event wraps up on Wednesday. A conference needs 8 victories total to clinch the challenge.
Louisville’s next game is Friday Night at 7pm against Florida International.
