06/06/2014 08:50 PM
The Louisville Cardinals gave their fans their moneys worth. Trailing for most of the game, the Cards scored three times in the 8th inning en route to a 5-3 victory over Kennesaw State. UofL leads the best of 3 series 1-0, and can earn a trip back to Omaha with a one more win.
Trailing 3-2 in the 8th, catcher Kyle Gibson laid down a perfect suicide squeeze bunt, scoring Grant Kay to tie the game. Then, with two outs, DH Nick Solak doubled in two more runs to make it 5-3. Ace reliever Nick Burdy, who yesterday was drafted in the second round (46th overall pick) by Minnesota, showed why he is the highest drafted Cardinal baseball player ever. Burdy shut the door on the Owls, striking out two of the four batters he faced.
The Cardinals can get back to the College World Series with either a win on Saturday (7pm) or Sunday (if necessary 6pm).
