For the second week in a row Brandon Radcliff rushed for better than 100 yards (110) and scored two touchdowns, and for the second week in a row Louisville overcame somewhat sloppy offensive play to pull out the victory. UofL Quarterback Reggie Bonnafon threw for 174 yards and a touchdown to tight end Gerald Christian, as the Cardinals beat Syracuse in the Carrier Dome 28-6. The Cards offense still sputtered somewhat, thanks to two turnovers including a Bonnafon interception. Louisville also had a staggering 9 penalties for 75 yards. However the Cards defense was destructive and dependable, not letting Syracuse in the endzone, while also forcing the Orange into two safeties. The ‘Cuse certainly helped the Cards cause by dropping two potential touchdown passes in the endzone.
Louisville’s run defense, which entered play allowing only 58 yards per game, outdid itself as the Orange gained only 49 yards rushing. On the back end, safety Gerard Holliman picked off his 7th pass, which is best in the nation, one of two interceptions thrown by Syracuse QB Terrel Hunt. With the victory, Louisville improves to 5-1 overall, 3-1 in the ACC, while Syracuse falls to 2-3 overall, and 0-1 in the conference. The Cards next game is a week from Saturday when they travel to take on the Tigers in Clemson. Kickoff for that October 11th game, is 3:3pm ET.
