All-American Montrezl Harrell had 15 points, while center Chinanu Onuaku finished with a double-double (12 points, 10 rebounds) as the 7th ranked Louisville Cardinals completely overwhelmed Jacksonville State 88-39. The Cardinals had a slim 19-13 lead in the first half before going to work. UofL finished on a 31-7 first half run, and then began the second half on a 23-2 spurt.

Head Coach Rick Pitino praised his team’s passing in the first half, and singled out the play of guard Chris Jones. Pitino said the senior’s play was “brilliant,.” adding that everything you see happening on the floor is because of Jones. For his part, Jones, who finished with 10 points, said his main emphasis is playing good defense. He says if he does that, everything else will fall into place.

With the win Louisville improves to 2-0 on the young season while the Gamecocks fall to 0-2. Next up for the Cards is a Friday 9pm home game against Marshall.
