Bengals select defensive back William Jackson III

With the 24th pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, the Cincinnati Bengals selected cornerback William Jackson III from Houston. It’s the third time in five years that the Bengals have drafted a defensive back with their top pick.

Jackson will join a deep position group as the Bengals now have four first round defensive backs. Marvin Lewis and his staff expect Jackson to compete immediately, starting with special teams. He joins a DB room that includes Adam Jones, Dre Kirkpatrick, and Darqueze Dennard.

Defensive coordinator Paul Guenther said the Houston cornerback won the Bengals over on his visit about two weeks ago. The Bengals feel he fits their system well and are impressed with his size (6’2) and speed.
