Bengals: On the Road Again
09/13/2015 09:00 AM
For the sixth straight year, the Bengals will begin their season on the road. Their streak of six consecutive road openers is the longest in franchise history and the longest current streak in the NFL. No other team has played more than three.
The good news for Bengals fans? Andy Dalton is pretty good on the road. Only three teams (Broncos, Patriots and 49ers) have a better away record than the Bengals since Dalton came into the league in 2011. The bad news for Bengals fans? The team has never won a game in Oakland. Ever. They are 0-10 there. They’ll look to change that Sunday.
When it comes to opening on the road, Marvin Lewis says he doesn’t mind, “Generally, we get a chance to finish at home. I’ll take that trade.” Lewis prefers to end the regular season at home, and they will this season, against division rival Baltimore.
Dalton says the team has extra focus when playing away from home, but Marvin Lewis said it comes down to one thing, “don’t turn the ball over.” The Bengals head coach says it’s that simple, “The same thing whether you’re playing out here at Paul Brown or on the road. Don’t turn the ball over. We have to do a great job of that. If you look at the opening games, the ones we’ve lost, we’ve lost in that battle. The ones we’ve won, we’ve won in that battle. That’s the key. I think that’s the key early in the season. I think that’s the key in every situation.”
